Other District Activities and Information

Bulk Purchases as arranged by the District Secretary:

  • Honey jars: These are usually available to order in early Spring with minimum order being half a gross. 2024 price from the Secretary. Orders with payment required by end of March.
  • Invert sugar syrup and bee fondant (12x1kg boxes). Usually available to order and purchase  late summer. 2024 price from the Secretary
  • Varroa treatments – Sometimes available: Information from the Secretary.

Honey from our District Apiary –1lb jars of liquid or soft set honey for members to purchase at special discounted price of £4.00 when surplus available. Occasionally buckets of honey for sale. Contact the Apiary Manager. NB Strictly for member’s own personal use and not for resale.

Meetings

  • Monthly meetings throughout the year. The District Secretary would be pleased to receive any suggestions of topics and speakers for talks etc
  • Indoor meetings  from September to April usually on 1st Thursday of month at Middle Rasen Church Hall 7.30pm unless informed otherwise
  • Summer months meetings: Possible honey jar collection with informal discussion session on 1st Thursday in May 7pm. July and August meetings as notified by Secretary.
  • Apiary sessions as arranged by Apiary Manager.

Public Events: Contact District Secretary if you are willing to volunteer  to help make a success of these events which aim to inform the public about the importance of bees and beekeeping

  • Countryside Lincs. – Sunday in April at the Lincolnshire Showground. April 14th 2024
  • Open Farm Sunday at Stainton le Vale on an early Sunday in June. June 9th 2024
  • Lincolnshire Show –  at the Lincolnshire Showground. Wed 19th –  Thurs 2oth June 2024

  • For guidance on bee health the National Bee Unit’s website has a great deal of useful information: https://secure.fera.defra.gov.uk/beebase/public/register.cfm All beekeepers are urged to register on BeeBase. The NBU will send alerts to those registered about a range of bee health issues including warnings of any notifiable diseases  in the vicinity of your apiary.
  • If you are concerned about the health of your own bees, first of all talk to a senior member of our District and then if necessary contact a bee inspector.
